I received my B.A. in philosophy and German from Dickinson College, and my M.A. and Ph.D. in philosophy from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. At Hofstra, I teach courses in philosophy of law, political philosophy, and women's studies; and I administer the philosophy department's minor in philosophy of law.
I am currently a Ph.D. Candidate in Philosophy at the Graduate Center, CUNY, working under the supervision of Virginia Held. My research primarily focuses on ethics and feminist theory, with particular interests in virtue ethics, care ethics, empathy, the interdependence of ethics and epistemology, and interrelational conceptions of persons.
Sarah Donovan is an Associate Professor in Philosophy at Wagner College.
I am a postdoctoral fellow at Fordham University in New York. I received my PhD in August 2015 from Vanderbilt University under the supervision of Marilyn Friedman, Larry May, and Rob Talisse.
My research investigates contemporary political philosophy through a feminist lens. Theories of justice aim to secure justice for all persons by securing their equality, freedom, and basic human rights. Despite a theoretical commitment to justice for all, many theorists overlook the extent to which their theories reinstate certain structures of oppression. My research aims to revise contemporary political theories in order to make them more consistent with their foundational ideals by attending to marginalized groups within society. |
I'm a philosopher and feminist theorist. My research focuses on moral and political issues relevant to women in the global South. My work on adaptive preferences, including my 2011 book Adaptive Preferences and Women’s Empowerment (Oxford University Press), develops an approach to responding to choices made by deprived people that perpetuate their own deprivation. I am currently writing a book entitled Transnational Feminist Ethics about the normative commitments required for cross-border feminist solidarity.
I am a philosopher, and biomedical ethicist. My areas of specialization are ethics, bioethics, specifically ethics of reproductive technologies, and women's studies. I am an expert on the ethics of sex selection (selecting the sex of one's child). I have published articles in various prestigious journals, and in a book. I recently published an article on sex selection in the highly regarded journal Bioethics. I have successfully presented my work at Vassar College, and Oxford University, among other places.
